Washing & Care Instructions
First Things First:
Now that you have your new reusable products, the first thing you need to do before you use them is wash them. When washing your products for the first time you can add them to your usual washing but remember to not wash any higher than 40c, no bleach or fabric softener.
Washing your Cloth Sanitary Pads:
Once you have made the switch you will find a method that works for you, but until then below is the method I use:
- Once you are ready to change you pad, take your used pad and place it in a bucket or wet bag until you are ready to wash them.
- If you are out and about can fold you used cloth pad in on itself, snap shut using the snaps and place in cloth pad wrapper until you get home. Once you get home, unsnap the wings and place the cloth pad in a bucket or wetbag.
- Once you are ready to wash your pads, check the pads and add any stain remover (remember to patch test first), following the instructions on the stain remover packaging. I use Vanish Oxi Clean powder on my pads when needed.
- Now you can put them all in your washing machine (making sure they are all unsnapped first) and select a Pre Wash Cycle on your washing machine. Remember to turn the temperature of the water to cold.
- Once the pre wash has finished, the pads can then be washed as normal with the rest of your washing.
Caring for your Cloth Sanitary Pads:
Caring for your products is much easier than you might think put there are a couple of things to remember:
- Do not wash in a cycle higher than 40c. You don't want to wash you cloth pads in anything higher then that because the heat will cause any remaining stains to set.
- Do not use fabric softener as it will cause your pads to lose their absorbency over time.
- Do not use bleach on any of your products, as this can damage them.
- Do not tumble dry/iron your products, this can shrink the fabric and also shorten the life of the your pads considerably and ruin the waterproof protection on wetbags, ILPs Pouch and cloth pad wrappers.
- The fleece on the back of the cloth pad will help keep your pad in place when wearing it, however i also recommend when wearing your cloth pads, wear them with fitted underwear that will snuggly hold your pad in place too.
With the right care your cloth sanitary pads will last up to 8+ years.
